When I was touring out in Japan earlier this year I had the pleasure of playing at wonderful cafe in Honancho, Tokyo called Cafe Mignon. Ryoko who runs the Cafe with her Husband is a wonderful person and upon finishing my set I was presented with a present.
“We think this will work well with what you do” She said. “Is it small and light but it makes a big sound”. I was handed a small device no larger than a calculator. It’s called a Korg Monotron and it works kind of like a mini synth.

I have connected it up to a spare channel on my loop station and now I’m beginning to incorporate it into my set. I have even written a song around it which is starting to appear in the set from time to time called ‘As Stubborn as a Sandfly’.
It feels great to have another string to my bow aswell as the thought that organically my sound is evolving in directions I’d have never thought.
Maybe the next record will be more Gary Numan than Garage Folk.
