Sons of Guns presents A Deadbeats spectacular – New Years Twisted 50s Prom….
On the 20th August, 1955, Sunnyside High school were enjoying their prom, like they did every year, but this year…..would be THE LAST.
Every single person that attended the prom that night was found dead.
When the police arrived in the early hours the music was still playing and glasses half full of punch were carefully placed on the gymnasium floor, surrounded by bodies.
They all died at the same time, struck down by some mysterious force. We’ll never know what happened that night.
BUT NOW…..58 YEARS LATER…ON NEW YEARS EVE….THE CLASS OF ’55 ARE BEING RESURRECTED FOR ONE LAST NIGHT TO DANCE LIKE THE DEVILS ON THEIR BACKS!!!!
YOU ARE THE CLASS OF ’55 and we need YOU to recreate the prom of ’55 one last time.

Another new music video has been created to one of my songs by students studying at Oaklands College in Welwyn Garden City, England.
This song ‘Klingending’ is taken from my 2012 album ‘GO’ and is a heavily edited version of the albums closing track
Filmed, Directed and Edited by Oli Ridgeway, Livvie Moynihan & Danielle Marks this video was created as a part of their Video and Media Coursework.
My thanks go to them for all the hard work and time they put into making this.

A long return drive south and strait into soundcheck.
I have been on the road with Andrea working for Sanday Agency to help get me around Italy. Now normally I drive myself about and Sleep in a tour van. However thanks to this being an agency backed tour I’m lucky that Andrea is driving me and for my accommodation I was housed in a nice hotel.
Anyway upon arrival at the venue we discover the venue has a piano. Andrea aswell as driving and helping me is also a great musician and we rehearse as a duo for one tune with Andrea playing a Piano at the venue.
We run the tune This College Year in a acoustic setting.
The venue was a nice space and the locals were generally very supportive. However when I played the track ‘Ons’ I looked out to the audience bearing in mind the layout of the venue ment that there was very little space near to the stage for seating. And the table that was closest to the stage was occupied by a bunch of people who were sat not watching the show but instead were all looking at facebook on their phones. Now this just simply makes me sad that it seems common place now for a phone to always be competing for attention even during times when people are watching a concert. For all I know they were telling people about my performance. But it simply does nothing to make a performer feel good about the show.
I mentioned this into the mic after the show and was pleased to have some audience members applaud me when I expressed my disapproval of this screen invasion we seem to be embracing as a modern society round the globe.
It simply is no ones fault and just a result of the changing of the times. It’s also f**king irritating.
Phew – Rant over.
Frustrations aside the performance was a spontaneous one with songs like ‘Blind Faith’ and ‘Misfit Theatre’ added to the set with only a moments forethought.
Setlist:
Before Your Very Eyes (Atoms For Peace Cover)
A new music video has been created to one of my songs by students studying at Oaklands College in Welwyn Garden City, England.
I remembered when I performed at the college and met the students involved how down to earth they were and the enthusiasm they expressed about the music was wonderfully positive to hear.
Filmed, Directed and Edited by Sam Skillman, Myles Brown & Nicholas Yates this video was created as a part of their Video and Media Coursework.
My thanks go to them for all the hard work and time they put into making this.

Onwards the tour heads up into the mountains for my 3rd year in a row visiting the sleepy town of Orvieto. Returning to this town holds special memories for me of some of the friendliest people and most supportive audiences I have performed to.
Upon arrival to the venue I am educated on some traditional Italian musical heroes like this guy.

Then I got on with playing some tunes.
The venue was once again busy and bustling and it was fantastic to see familiar faces from shows past.
My Set list was once again calling from material across the last 7 years on the road dating back to my 2006 album release ‘Autonomous Debut’.
I was also once again on hand with my Kerouac which I was halfway through reading.

Before Your Very Eyes
On the whole I felt a positive reaction from the audience once again and found myself talking to people well beyond the time that I should and then having to rush to pack all the equipment away before the venue closed.
My thanks go to Radio Orvieto for all their support and for recording and broadcasting my performances at Magazzino and to Riccardo Bianchi for Capturing these images of the concert.
Also to the lovely local hosts who got me drunk 😛
Below is an article about my collaboration with the students at Oaklands College from 2012.

ANYWAY: For the 2nd year in a row Oaklands College has decided to use my music as the basis for their videos.
I have returned to the college and performed for them and done a Q&A with the students involved aswell as seen some of the works in progress.
I would like to say how amazing it has been to be a part of this project (twice) and to know my music will be heard by fresh ears.
But also to know people will take on their own creative route forward with the music.
My deepest thanks go out to the Student at Oaklands and for their time and energy given to this. To be a part of of this project has been an honor.
One of the first videos to have been uploaded to You tube can be seen here:
South I head to the town of smelly sulphur – Otherwise known as Rotorua
I play a show organised by the wonderful Rogue Stage.
An audience member captured some of the show here:
Anyway after I played I got chatting to someone who`s an old family friend from the UK. Her name’s Margaret and although the last time I met her was when I was still in nappies she remembered me well.
She moved to NZ some years back and once she saw the inlay to my Vinyl LP (which has a picture of my Father inside it) she told me she had footage of an old Rugby match from 1965. It has my Dad playing in it.
Now the thing is my Father passed sometime back when I was very young. I`ve made a bit of a mission within recent years to try and find out more about him; and so to be on the other side of the planet almost as far from home as I can get. And to discover a video of him from nearly 50 years ago.
This almost melted my tiny mind.
But that`s the journey I`m on and it`s things like this that re-enforce it aswell as it being a worthy path to walk.
Following the show in Rotorua I Headed south to play a bunch of shows in Mount Maunganui & Hawkes Bay.
The shows were totally across the board from busy to empty to crazy to subdued.
Some were relaxed and other seemed very intense.
From there I would return North for a couple more shows in Rotorua and at the night Market (which is actually an afternoon market)
You can watch that here 🙂

Whilst on tour last week in South Korea I was interviewed by Chance Dorland as a part of the the Seoul It Up website about the arts and goings on in Korea.
It was a pleasure to talk about the tour and relish the experience.
