Following the completion of the Swiss leg of the tour it was back to France for one final show before Italy.
The drive was long and winding as the journey travelled over mountains and through valleys.
It was out to West France to play an english run pub in the small town of Charroux.
It was surprising to find the audience was 95% English. Wonderful and friendly but very weird at the same time. What was a pleasure was to see some familiar faces from the UK who were now living out there. Familiar faces on the road is almost always a bonus.
The Show was chance to try some very new and untested songs. Amongst the full set 6 songs were unreleased.
Following this we begun the trip towards Italy. Stopping at many places along the way including the Lot Valley, Ariege, Aude, Carcasson and finally in the far South West where my brother and his wife were staying.
Asmara took some further shots of our journey:
Now going back to what I was saying about familiar faces. To see your own family in the middle of a tour which has taken you round many new and unknown places for me was the best example of this. We chilled and chatted as well as ate and were merry. Just a perfect break from the transience and random.
Every once in a while we would stop and try to take a dip in a river. Sadly this one was PRETTY DAMN COLD!!!
Live and Learn.
Next stop is my First show in Italy – Vicenza
It feels funny to me to think I have been to Italy 5 times to perform now. It feels like only a short while ago I was boarding a flight for my 1st trip.
However this tour was a first for one reason. I was driving myself this time. I had driven to Italy via Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Rep, & Austria. Already this tour had been rolling since June when it kicked off in the UK.
I had been on the road in Italy for nearly a month by the time of my final performance. It was at Rive Jazz Club which was located close to Vicenza.
This was my 3rd performance here and the owners and staff were their usual friendly selves.
The audience were bustling collection of people and the more mellow songs would have got lost so more focus was put on keeping the set upbeat.

Bugscope (Currently Unreleased – Early live version here)
Decide (Currently Unreleased)
New songs Bugscope and Decide have become pride of place as set regulars. However I remain nervous about playing the other new material and chose to leave other new songs out tonight (again). A part of me feels this is a weak decision but I must move forward with caution when introducing the new songs. My confidence drop is always evident (at least to me) when playing the new stuff live.
After an afternoon hanging out in Verona with the folks at Italian Label Starquake Records I made my way with Andrea to Vicenza where we readied for my return show there. Andrea again was mindbogglingly patient and respectful as we wrestled for a while with getting the sound right with the room.
The venue itself has been open since shortly after the 2nd world war and is now run by the grand daughter of the original owners. It maintains that cool vintage mystique and feel. There are Vinyls lying around next to gramaphones. Which can by utilized in a number of ways 😉
The vibe that night was mellow and I played a super long extended set more focused on the mellow. Rare performances of Time Lost Tradition, City at Night and a Solo version of Dare We Claim Victory also got a dusting down.
A lovely warm and friendly crowd. We even got drunk and talked politics after the show. A Bad Idea!!!
